日本画スケッチ集. [Collection of Japanese Sketches].
$1250
A delightful collection of Japanese ink drawings and watercolours of Japanese gardens, trees and blossoms. The delicate hand-coloured scroll of plum blossoms and maples demonstrates both aesthetic sensitivity and horticultural interest, with varieties carefully named. The bamboo studies are nice exercises in brush technique, while the panoramic scroll of a garden landscape, stretching nearly four metres, offers a rare visual impression of spatial planning and garden flow. Together, these pieces offer insight into Japanese garden design and botanical study during the late Edo period.
