[Circa 20th Century]. One case of cast metal very small movable type sorts for Japanese kanji, hiragana and katakana, case 13.5 x 13.5 cm, the type 2.2 x 05 x 0.5 cm, 25 columns x 25 rows of sort specimens; in very good condition. Fine examples of Japanese type.

Complete in two volumes : Quarto : pp. (12) 590 (13); (8) 527 (1, blank) : cream endpapers : portrait frontis of Milton to both volumes (G. Vertue sculp.), and numerous elaborate head- and tailpieces and historiated initials : contemporary calf boards with gilt tooled edges : five raised bands to spines : red leather title panels and green leather volume panels lettered in gilt : foliated gilt decorations to the other panels : vol. two with armorial bookplate to front paste-down.

Hardcover, in dark blue morocco, a little worn at head and tail of spine, gilt vignette on front cover, decorative gilt edge around inside of cover, edges uncut, interior in excellent condition. A deluxe edition of 200 copies of which this is numbered 164, 24 coloured reproduction tipped in plates, 8 tipped in plates of drypoints.

De luxe catalogue for an exhibition of over 400 works comprising a portfolio of works, photographs, an audio cassette of Duchamp speaking, and more, all housed in a wooden box, the top and bottom of which being reproductions of Duchamp’s ‘mental’ Chess Board.

Signed by the author "'Yes' Caresse Crosby." which was her motto. Caresse was an arts patron, antiwar activist, and bohemian in the 1920s. She co-founded the Black Sun Press in 1927 with her second husband Harry Crosby, They published limited editions of works by Ernest Hemingway, D. H. Lawrence, Anais Nin, Henry Miller, and Hart Crane. Crosby is the inventor of the first modern bra, which she patented in 1914.

LEWIN, John William (1770-1819) A natural history of the birds of New South Wales ... London : Henry H. Bohn, 1838. Folio, original publisher’s binding of quarter crushed morocco, spine lettered in gilt ‘Lewin’s Birds of New Holland’, green cloth covered boards, yellow endpapers, pp [iv], 26 etched plates with original gouache hand colouring, interleaved with accompanying letterpress text. A fine example, in original condition, of one of the rarest illustrated works of Australian natural history.

Botanical copperplate engraving of Digitalis (Foxglove) from the first edition of Abraham Munting's opus magnum, 1696. The illustrations are remarkable for their elegance and originality. The plant dominates the foreground, filling the entire page. It is presented in a delightful pastoral scene with a farmhouse and cattle. The latin name is written on an elegantly fluttering banderole. Excellent condition, sharply printed with a clear plate mark on watermarked paper.

Book of Hours leaf printed on vellum, c.1512 by Vostre, Paris. Many metalcuts including Saint Christopher carrying the child Jesus, dragons, grotesques, Saint Sebastian being martyred, the Delphic Sybil and an elephant. Coloured initials added by hand after the printing. Near mint condition, sharply printed on clean vellum.

London: Geo.[rge] Bishop, Horticultural And Commercial Printer, 1895. Attractive dummy catalogue from horticultural printers, George Bishop, issued as promotional material to develop new custom. This is an actual horticultural catalogue with detailed botanical information with the lithographed wrappers, a sample to show to prospective customers the fine quality of their printing and the high style of their design work. Interesting both from a printing point of view and from a botanical perspective, not to mention its beauty. A lovely copy of a scarce item.

A new version by Gilbert Seldes with a special introduction by Mr. Seldes and illustrations by Pablo Picasso.
